The Guardian Home Program allows us to expand our breeding program while giving our breeding dogs the best life possible. Our Guardian families get the pick of the litter at no cost to them. They then become that puppies forever home while Curious and Clever Cockapoos retain breeding rights for a set amount of time.

 

Our females remain in the program until they’ve whelped (given birth to) 4 litters which typically takes 4-6 years. Our males are bred on an “as needed” basis and their contracts remain up to 8 years.

 

While in the breeding program, Curious and Clever Cockapoos will pay for all breeding related expenses while the guardian family is responsible for all routine pet care such as food, professional grooming, training and routine vet care- following Curious and Clever Cockapoos guidelines.

 

Curious and Clever Cockapoos will make the decision on when and to whom the female will be bred. A typical pregnancy lasts approximately 63 days. The female will come to our home for 3-7 days for breeding, will stay with her guardian family for the duration of the pregnancy and come back to us approximately 1 week before her due date to whelp (give birth) and raise her puppies. She will remain with us until puppies are weaned usually between 6-8 weeks at which time she can then return home to her guardian family. Once the female/male have completed his/her breeding duties, Curious and Clever Cockapoos will pay to have him/her spayed/neutered and release ownership to the guardian family.

 

As a guardian home you must consider many things. You will have to be comfortable with being away from your female for an extended period of time each year (approximately 2-3 months). You will have to deal with many heat cycles and be prepared to keep her away from intact males to avoid unwanted litters. You will need to learn the signs of a heat cycle and communicate, cooperate and coordinate with us to ensure successful breeding. Males will have to be kept away from intact females and you will have to be willing and able to bring him to us as needed to breed. Curious and Clever Cockapoos will provide adequate notice before requiring the dogs service.

 

To qualify for the Guardian Home Program we require that you:

 

* Live within 2 hrs of breeding home (Norman's Cove, NL)

 

* Physical fencing is preferred, but not mandatory, to provide a safe and secure environment for the dog.

This also protects the dog from any unplanned, unwanted pregnancies. If fencing is not available, the dog must be tied on and monitored at all times while in heat.

 

* Agree not to breed the dog.

 

* Never leave the dog off leash in an unsecured area. NO dog parks allowed.

 

* Have reliable transportation and willingness to bring the dog to us when needed throughout the year for breeding purposes such a vet appointments, breeding and whelping.

 

* Maintain open lines of communication with us concerning any matter related to the dog.

 

* Comply with Curious and Clever Cockapoos nutritional and dietary guidelines and pay all cost and expenses associated with feeding the dog.

 

* Schedule and pay for all veterinary appointments (other then those associated with breeding, which will be paid for by Curious and Clever Cockapoos) and provide medical care if needed for the dog.

 

* Provide pictures and updates every month for the first year.

 

* Provide regular professional grooming.

 

* Provide daily walks/exercise for the dog.

 

* Continue to ensure the dog is compliant, kennel-trained, housebroken, and leash-trained.

 

* Notify Curious and Clever Cockapoos of any planned vacations and change of address, phone or email.

 

* Understand that we are waiving the purchase price of the dog in exchange for a service - you must be willing to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with us during their time in the program, and be dedicated to providing a safe, loving home for the lifetime of the dog.
